Duo Project
Bothell native Alison Banchero is a singer and storyteller delivering a smart mix of Lake Street Dive soul and Sara Bareilles lyricism. A former blues band singer, past-life coffeehouse songwriter, and recovering composer, Alison is now creating her own musical language somewhere between the three. Whether performing with her gale force band or alone at the piano, each of her songs is a self-contained universe with its own characters and conflicts.
It Ain’t Love, the first single and title track off Alison's upcoming EP, is currently available on Spotify
Alison started singing in a competitive children's choir and studied classical voice throughout high school. She then attended Central Washington University to study voice and composition. She sang in Vocal Jazz 1 and jazz combos and played piano in big band, jazz combos, and accompanied for vocal jazz. In her Senior year she wrote, arranged, and recorded a 9 song album for her cumulating department project and was a CWU SOURCE Award recipient for best creative research award. She is currently being considered for two awards in DownBeat Magazine for her compositions and solo vocal work.
Gavin grew up in Snoqualmie, Washington and studied guitar with Davey French, guitarist of the rock band Everclear for 6+ plus years. At the age of 16, he started to play guitar in multiple cover bands while also participating in the Mount Si Band program. In 2012, Gavin began teaching private and group guitar classes at Big Star Studios in his hometown of Snoqualmie. After graduating in 2014, he decided to study guitar performance at McNally Smith College of Music in Minnesota before transferring to study upright bass at Central Washington University with one of the most elite bass players in the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Anna Jensen. At Central, Gavin has played guitar for select groups such as the CWU Jazz Band I, and was a section leader for the CWU Marching Band Leadership Team for two years. During his time at CWU, Gavin performed with some of the worlds most renown jazz artists. This includes John Clayton, Terell Stafford, and the Grammy award winning Cuban musician, Dafnis Prieto. Outside of CWU, Gavin plays in a folk band originating from North Bend, WA, Tinkham Road.
In this new collaboration, Alison and Gavin bring together fan favorites with originals and contemporary tunes for a fun musical mix enjoyable for everyone in the crowd. Between the two, they utilize five instruments for variations in sound and interpretation. Both are graduates of the Central Washington University Music Department and have performance backgrounds. They enjoy many genres ranging from jazz and blues to pop and rock.
